dk 3 photopolymer film
is normally used in the electronic industry for producing circuit boards. There are more brands and manufacturers of photopolymer film on the market. In my Grafisk Eksperimentarium we are currently testing the different films on the market in order to always find the best. The DK3-Photopolymer Film is at the moment superior to any other brands on the market with regards to the deep blacks and the delicate grey tones in the final print.
DK3 is a thicker and a more light sensitive generation of photopolymer film for wet og dry lamination.
Length: 5 meters (196 inches) – with 60,5 Centimeters (23,8 inches) – Thickness: 48 microns
Before use: Take out the film from the fridge 2-3 hours before use and let it rest in room temperature
The new qualities compared to the DK2 photopolymer film
Better durability at storage: Keep lightproof – 5-18 degree celcius at a humidity of 50-70% (eventually in fridge)
Better resolution and less scum and sludge occurrence during development.
A stronger film enables bigger editions
A thicker film means deeper black and better gray tones in the final print
Higher sensibility to UV-light means shorter exposure time (about 20-40 % less depending on the equipment and positive – make a calibration test once and forever).
Suggested exposure times using an exposure unit like described with the:
UV-bulp Philips HPR 125 watt
Aquatint screen: 2.00 min
Continuous tone - tush-washing: 1.00 min
Continuous tone - toner-washing: 1.00 min
Continuous tone - photograph: 38 seconds
Halftone positive from Epson Stylus Color 3000: 35 seconds
